Marcel van Garderen

W8 team

vice president and drawing manager
Marcel has been working in the field of architecture since 2003. He joined the WORKSHOP8 team in September 2014 and was named Vice President of WORKSHOP8 in August 2017. His broad experience with commercial, multifamily, and healthcare encompasses all project phases from design to production and contract administration. He has a track record of efficiently coordinating team members to keep projects on budget and on schedule.

Marcel was born and raised in the Netherlands and moved to the United States in 1988 at the age of 20. Following high school in the Netherlands, where he earned an electrician’s diploma at a trade school, he completed two years in an electronic and electrical engineering program prior to moving to the U.S. The first ten years living in the US, Marcel worked in many facets of the construction industry, including building custom wood furniture, installing and finishing hardwood flooring, and a plethora of other roles. This hard labor was perfect preparation for his transition into architecture.

Marcel received his Master of Architecture from Montana State University in 2003 where he graduated with honors and was awarded first place in his masters thesis project. While attending architecture school, Marcel raised his family of three young children. After graduation, Marcel worked for a firm in Missoula for two years and then moved to Colorado. Prior to joining WORKSHOP8, Marcel worked for OZ Architecture in Boulder, as well as The Neenan Company and VFLA in Fort Collins.
