C’est La Vie!
On my first trip to Europe, I managed to pack just about everything possible into two weeks in two countries. Here are some highlights of my trip!
La Ville-Lumière
To kick off the trip we spent the first 5 days (and nights) wandering the streets of the City of Light, drinking espresso and munching on delicious french pastries, shopping in the funky thrift shops, and taking in the beauty of this complex and elegant city. The highlight of my time in this city was getting lost in museums and walking along the river.
Roman Holiday
In the eternal city, our days were filled with rainy Roman ruins, spectacular fountains and enormous public plazas. Walking the city, we stumbled upon plenty of fun shops and wonderful restaurants, as well as a cup of the best espresso I have ever had!
The highlight of Rome for me was our trip to the Roman Baths of Caracalla. Walking the ruins of this ancient public center and re-assembling the spaces in my mind was a fascinating experience.
La Dolce Vita
Leaving Rome, we jumped on a train bound northwest to the Italian Riviera The sleepy seaside villages of Cinque Terre boasted hiking trails with breathtaking views, cliffside vineyards, and secret beaches. The best parts our visit to this cluster of five villages was the incredible seafood, shopping, and a feeling of eternal summer. I wanted to stay forever…
Last stop…Firenze!
For our last city, we jumped back on the train to Firenze (Florence). This city the home of one of my favorite pieces of Renaissance architecture. The Duomo of the Santa Maria del Fiore is a sight I have been waiting years to see, and it did not disappoint. Standing beneath the dome was an entire experience in itself, and one that I will never forget.
But Wait!
Of course, we couldn’t leave Italy without a final helping of Gelato!
