08 DEC 20 | WE PAINTED ANOTHER MURAL

“I SEE YOU”

With the help of Boulder Creative Neighborhoods, we were selected to paint a mural on Jay Road in Gunbarrel! The Creative Neighborhoods Mural Program pairs homeowners with artists to create beautiful pieces of art in local neighborhoods. WORKSHOP8 loves doing murals, especially this year. We did quite a few of them in 2020, and every one of them we looked forward to because it was a chance for all of us to get together physically (not over Zoom or Google Meet) and safely!

“FEET, WHAT DO I NEED YOU FOR WHEN I HAVE WINGS TO FLY?” – FRIDA KHALO

This mural is based off of the homeowner’s favorite quote by Frida Khalo. Brandy started with a quick charrette, creating a fair amount of options that all had a bird motif representing this quote.

Then, it was decided! We had a concept and decided to name it “I See You.”

A BLANK SLATE SURNED COLORFUL

On the day of painting, we started by laying out the shapes of the background with a chalk line with the help of some girls our homeowner is teaching in her home during the pandemic. They also made Brandy an awesome mural themselves!

Once the background was done, we used chalk and tape to create outlines of the birds and flowers. Then it was on to painting the details. This was definitely the most time consuming part, but also the most important!

A FINISHED MURAL

DONE! This mural makes Jay Road so special. Everyone’s favorite part seems to be of the Jay bird, representing Jay Road!
