OLIN HOTEL APARTMENTS
Construction at the Olin Hotel Apartments has officially wrapped up and residents are settling in to their new and improved homes. When designing the interior, WORKSHOP8 focused on creating a warm, inviting, and safe space that references the Spanish Mission Style of the exterior.
One of the best parts of a renovation project are the before and after photos – take a peak at these dramatic updates!
COMMON AREAS
Bright, energy efficient LED lighting, new ceiling tiles, cleanable flooring, and fresh paint brighten up the corridors.
In its heyday the Peppermint Lounge was a glamorous spot to relax after a long day. With terrazzo floors and a fireplace, who wouldn’t want to kick back here? The Peppermint Lounge was expanded and now is home to a suite of offices and a cozy sitting area and coffee spot for residents. A new fireplace, tile, stairs, railings, ramp and flooring were added, and the existing terrazzo was restored.
An updated program was added to the existing Game Room to better suit residents. The games, like pool and ping pong, remained, and a computer lab and gym were added. New lighting, ceiling tiles, flooring, paint and furniture breathe new life into this space.
Stairs from the First Floor to the Second Floor received a makeover inspired by Spanish Mission Style. New wood flooring and treads, tile risers, paint and code compliant handrails and balusters make this stair special. It was lovingly referred to as the “Fancy Stair” in the W8 office.
UNITS
New finishes and fixtures were added to unit bathrooms. Grab bars and other accessibility upgrades were included to make the units more functional for the elderly population that calls them home.
Unit kitchens and living spaces also received fresh looks, including new fixtures, appliances, cabinetry, countertops and flooring.
5TH FLOOR
Previously abandoned, due to a fire, the Fifth Floor had seen better days. A new staircase and lift were added for safe access, insulation was removed and and all finishes were updated. With some TLC, 6 units were restored.
This project was challenging but also rewarding in so many ways. We are grateful to have had the chance to help reinvigorate the Olin Hotel Apartments.
