8 AUGUST 24 | INTERNATIONAL W8 DAY

We’ve been bustling with activity for the last 36 months — moving to a new office in 2021, training a slew of new employees in the art and science of architecture, and working on several multifamily projects for esteemed clients like High Plains Housing Development Corp., Maiker Housing Partners, Loveland Housing Authority, Rainier Development, Denver Housing Authority, and Development Strategies (to name a handful). All this exciting work kept us away from our blog.

REMEMBER THESE? These renderings before construction on Gateway even started? NOW LOOK AT THE REAL THING! No, that is not a rendering– it’s the real thing! 08 JULY 21 | WHY ARE CONSTRUCTION COSTS SO HIGH RIGHT NOW?

Why is construction expensive right now? As time has passed since the beginning of the pandemic, construction materials become less readily available making their prices go up. This shortage has made the construction industry struggle to find materials that will fit within a normal budget. Fuel, copper, steel, aluminum, and lumber have all increased in […]

18 FEB 20 | SOUNDHOUND : It’s a Wrap!

A FIRST LOOK AT SOUNDHOUND, BOULDER I consider myself somewhat of a “tech-junkie,” so when WORKSHOP8 was asked to help CBRE and SoundHound – a California-based tech company – in finding and designing a space that would become their new permanent Boulder office, I couldn’t have been more excited. I mean, how often do you get the […]

8 MAY 19 | ARTISTRY

8 Values : 1 Vision At the end of 2018, our VP, Marcel van Garderen, issued an employee satisfaction survey. Now, every Monday during our team scrum we discuss one of the questions. A couple of weeks back, one of those questions prompted a conversation about WORKSHOP8’s values and vision which spiraled into me creating […]
28 APR 19 | RENDERING PERFECTION

8 Things I Look For In A Rendering One of my favorite things about being an architectural designer is creating renderings. It can be difficult to truly envision a building’s intent through language, plans, and elevations alone. But digital renderings are a great way to depict how a building is going to look. It is […]

AOI home care TI Today I’m telling you the tale of transformation for one of our favorite clients, AOI Home Care. However, before I get started, allow me to diverge for a minute. All of the acronyms that we so commonly use in the construction industry drove the AOI crew crazy! It was like we were speaking in code […]

white walls Today I get to brag about a dear friend’s new artwork! Sarah McKenzie is a Boulder-based artist and her latest body of work, White Walls, is on view at David B Smith Gallery through October 8th. Colorado State Symbols On July 8th Chelsea blogged about her research into WASPs (Women Airforce Service Pilots) for the design of one of the restrooms at the Stanley Marketplace. rist canyon event center case study One of the best parts of our jobs as designers is helping a client conceptualize a project. Architectural and Interior Design visualization services help developers determine the feasibility of the project, find investors, and shop for a bank loan. For the Rist Canyon Event Center project, we worked with the developer to find […]

8 OCT 15 | imagine a great boulder
A couple of days ago, on October 6th, I did something I’ve dreaded since I was in grade school: speak in front of people–close to 250 at Boulder’s E-Town Hall. I made sure to get a good night’s rest, eat a hearty breakfast, and act cool around my coworkers. After downing 3 alcoholic beverages 30 minutes […]
28 AUG 15 | we’re talking some crap!
Brandy was really hesitant to let me write a blog post about composting toilets. I mean, she’s an artist and loves beautiful things! And for sure, at first glance, a composting toilet is ANYTHING but beautiful. First of all, we have to talk about poop to talk about composting toilets. Goodness gracious. But really, once […]

18 MAY 15 | the babies are booming!
Images from the 1950s. The young women of today could learn a thing or two about fashion from the 1950s. What is a Boomer? If you were born between 1946 and 1964 (like my parents), then you already know you too are affectionally referred to as a baby boomer. According to the Center for Housing […]
