artist statement
As a conceptual artist, I collaborate with my team to create site specific public and commissioned work in a variety of media including: murals; mosaic; permanent and temporary sculpture; interactive; found object; digital; printed; language-based; etc. I begin with a concept, a story, or a desired outcome and given the timeframe, budget, and location, I determine the best way to execute the concept in order to meet the needs of the assignment.

In conceptual art the idea is the most important aspect of the work. Most of the planning and decisions of my pieces are made beforehand and the execution is either performed by me, my team, a fabricator or some combination. I rely on a variety of high-tech and low tech methods to implement my concept-based work. I thrive on envisioning creative, fun, positive ideas and collaborating to determine the best way to execute them.

I love pop art and graphic design and my 2-D art work often relies on the use of found imagery to tell uncomplicated, affirmative stories. I utilize juxtaposition to create synergy among seemingly unrelated images and graphics. I am also fascinated with mid-twentieth century American culture and design. As a child, I couldn’t get enough of Hollywood musicals; today I am still captivated by the architecture, furniture, advertising, graphic arts, industrial design, and fine art from the period and much of my work is inspired by it.
