A FIRST LOOK AT SOUNDHOUND, BOULDER
I consider myself somewhat of a “tech-junkie,” so when WORKSHOP8 was asked to help CBRE and SoundHound – a California-based tech company – in finding and designing a space that would become their new permanent Boulder office, I couldn’t have been more excited. I mean, how often do you get the opportunity to work with a company whose song recognition app you already have on your phone?
Chelsea and I kicked off this project eight months ago by touring available commercial spaces in Boulder alongside CBRE and SoundHound. After visiting 3 sites and exercising different test-fit options, SoundHound selected a 6,452 SF office space right on the Pearl Street Mall (just two blocks away from the W8 studio – hi neighbors!).
The space wouldn’t be as great as it is without the help of the whole team. Our neighbors over at Boulder Engineering took care of the MEP design. Kyle and Bryce with ICS Construction did a great job turning our concept into a reality, and their crew moved fast in order to get SoundHound all moved in as the New Year quickly approached. A NEW OPEN SPACE
BEFORE
AFTER
The new space was renovated to remove private offices along the exterior walls to provide plenty of natural light for the open office environment.
To mitigate office noise, movable felt panels divide the break area from the main work area (good find, Megan!)
SoundHound’s corporate colors and standard systems furniture were implemented into the design so that their brand remained consistent.
A FRESH NEW KITCHEN
BEFORE
AFTER
We designed a bright and airy kitchen to provide plenty of storage, counter space, and seating options for employee downtime.
No breakroom would be complete without a pool table – a SoundHound staple.
CONFERENCE ROOMS
Each conference room is named after a Colorado ski mountain, with appropriate artwork to match.
Chelsea was able to find and purchase the artwork and plants for the office, and Colorado ski mountain maps became her inspiration.
We were secretly excited to play office models for the day.
BRIGHT NEW COMMON AREAS
Uplifting colors and cozy chairs make the common areas a comfortable space where employees can enjoy the downtown Boulder view.
Thanks for Reading!
Welcome to the neighborhood, Soundhound! We’re glad you have a space of your own now!
