PROJECT DATES

2014 to 2016

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Stanley Marketplace is an adaptive-reuse commercial project situated in the former 1950s era Stanley Aviation Works research and manufacturing facility in Aurora, Colorado. The project occupies the existing 138,244 square foot facility and the surrounding 22 acre property. The Finished conditioned space hovers around 160,000 SF. The Stanley Marketplace includes an indoor/outdoor beer hall, multiple restaurants, a grocery and market, a large event space, retail space for multiple merchants, commercial office space, a community room, children’s programming, and ample outdoor areas.

This $20 million catalytic project located near Stapleton Denver, but sited in the City of Aurora, creates a bridge between two communities that have physical barriers, psychological barriers, and demographic barriers. It opened in Fall 2016.

WORKSHOP8 stepped into the project after a large national architecture firm was dismissed. We provided architecture, interior design, and environmental graphic design services. In addition to working with consultants we were familiar with (Jansen Strawn), we also had the opportunity to successfully collaborate with several new consultants on the project  (ME Group, Studio NYL, Consillium Design, and White Construction). The project was challenging given that in addition to the City of Aurora, there were multiple investors—each with a slightly different agenda and vision for the project—but it is really taking off and serves as a destination for visitors both near and far.
