LeMae: Girls, Girls, Girls

“Spurred by my fantasies of being a girly girl, this work pays homage to the idealized and stylized females of the 1930s. Always a fan of the Varga Girl and Bunny Yeager’s photos of Bettie Page, I have been examining my own notions of beauty and sexuality for years. I shot many self-portraits in pinup girl poses as part of that exploration. In “Girls, Girls, Girls” I took commercial messages and edited them to investigate how innocent words and phrases can become sexualized in conjunction with the female image.” – Brandy LeMae
