LeMae: Spun Sugar

“As a continuation of my previous work, these acrylic on canvas paintings are explorations of female iconography. The images were taken from present and past popular culture and were all culled from the internet.

I also used internet found images in my work, Waxing Beauty. I was thinking about my baby daughter, Carmen, as I created these pieces. I revisited characters I remembered from my childhood, like Lucy from The Peanuts and Wonder Woman, and mixed them with some of the vintage imagery I’ve grown so fond of over the years. Other paintings contain current girl favorites like Hello Kitty and Buttercup from the Power Puff Girls. Some paintings also have panels based on vintage fabric swatches.” -Brandy LeMae
