WORKSHOP8 hosted our first ever client appreciation party on August 28th. It was a beautiful eventing for a garden party at Hickory House. Our house doesn’t look too bad for being 12 years old! (An example of how building with higher quality products actually leads to a lower long term cost.)

“Tina” the Big Pink Food Truck brought us yummy tacos from Comida.
Comida’s founder, Rayme Rossello, made sure that every plate of tacos was perfect. And they were! There was even one with shrimp with grits…amazing! We are stoked to be working with Rayme; Marcel is designing Comida’s new space at the Stanley Marketplace.
We also served a delicious fresh salad from Modmarket. Joseph and Kate had been helping Modmarket founder, Anthony Pigliacampo, and his wife Natalie with a contemporary SIP re-build to their current residence. But then a super cool mid-century modern home came on the market and Anthony and Natalie couldn’t help but make an offer. We can’t blame them–it’s gorgeous and we all spent a few minutes drooling over the pictures we saw of it! Hopefully, we’ll get to help with an addition [wink, wink].
Always a favorite, we served tasty wine by Augustina’s Winery based right here in Boulder. Her Colorado-made wine features labels based on my Matchbook Girls paintings from back in the day (1998).
And a new favorite, a delicious Coco Oranje Porter by Casita Brewing Co served up by the brewmaster himself, Brian Arnold. It was so good that we ran out! Next time we’ll have to make sure to get more. We’ve also tried their Mango IPA and are so excited to have some more beers from Casita when they open their spot that we’re helping them with in the Stanley Marketplace.
playing molkky
Our former partner, Ulla Lange, taught us how to play Molkky. Now it is standard for any WORKSHOP8 garden party. Here I am explaining it to Brian and Megan who have never played before. Megan ended up winning the first game… much to Kate’s chagrin! (Kate was the reigning champion from our last Molkky tournament.)
Ivan facilitated the games. Michele is using her phone to keep score. Young Dane Mault (center) ended up winning the second game.
Shawn’s son, Otto concentrates on making a good throw.
Chelsea helps re-set pins while Ivan keeps score on the Molkky app… yes, there is an app for that!

I’ve been wanting those party lights for 12 years and this party was finally a reason for me to get Joseph up on a ladder to hang them. They were everything I’d hoped for!

Joseph helped Troy and Michele with exterior and landscape upgrades to their mid-century modern home in Boulder a few years back.
We’ve know Roger Lewis for years and worked with him when he was with Thistle Community Housing, now he is serving as the Owner’s Rep for Accent on Independence (AOI). Joseph and Chelsea are assessing several commercial buildings for AOI.
Before BJ Urbiziondo was a WORKSHOP8 client, he worked on both Hickory House and The Candy Shop with his earth moving business (Bioterra Constructors / Placemakers). Kate, Chelsea and Shawn are helping BJ with interior and exterior finish selections for his remodel project.
Keith and Pablo from Deneuve Construction with their dates. The Aerie project for the Denver Housing Authority (DHA) is a design-build project, so Deneuve Construction is technically our client! In addition to the Aerie, we are working on experiential graphic design projects for the DHA Mariposa neighborhood.
Megan Von Wald and Lorin Ting are part of the Flightline Development team responsible for the Stanley Marketplace in Aurora. Our entire team has been involved with the design of the Stanley Marketplace and we just can’t wait to host a client appreciation party there–maybe next year?!?! In addition to helping create a super cool new urban marketplace, Megan and Lorin are expecting their first child—a little boy. Congrats!!
Casita Brewing Co. brewmaster Brian Arold here with Emily and his new bride Megan. Shawn and Kate are designing Casita’s flagship brewery and tasting room at the Stanley Marketplace and Melissa designed their logo.
Melissa with Ginger from the Boulder Christian Science Church. Shawn and Ivan are working on a new front stair design for this historic church located in Boulder.
First up is Jason Goode from Faurot Construction with his cute son, Riley. Faurot Construction was our design-build boss / client for the Jamestown Fire Station designed by Joseph and Emily. Jen and Derek live in one of my very favorite projects, the Lab House, which Joseph and I designed in 2006. They just bought some land and we may get to design a vacation home for them. Can’t wait!
Greg Langer and his wife Lisa lost their Longmont home in the 2013 floods. Joseph and Emily designed a replacement home that will be partially built by Habitat for Humanity of the St. Vrain Valley. Dismas Rotta and his wife Stefka Trusz are really interesting artists. I met Dismas when he served on the BMoCA board. Kate and Shawn are helping them with a remodel to their home.
