08 APRIL 23 | GATEWAY AWARDS!

Exciting news, old and upcoming for Gateway at Sun Valley!

WORKSHOP8’s Gateway North, South, Townhomes, and Decatur Fresh won a Downtown Denver Award for its sustaining contribution to Denver in 2021. The Denver Housing Authority (DHA) was recognized last October during a ceremony at the Denver Art Museum and was in good company with Meow Wolf, McGregor Square, RiNo ArtPark, the Denver Art Museum itself, and CU Denver’s City Heights Residence Hall also taking home awards.

This award is especially cherished, as the project impressed the Downtown Denver Partnership, which conventionally recognizes commercial and cultural developments in the downtown. However, the awards committee recognized the importance of an affordable housing project in Sun Valley. They acknowledged the Gateway project provides culturally responsive, sustainable, and diverse housing and its value to the greater Denver community, environment, and economy.

Check out this great video of Gateway from the event.

Accepting the Award : Mark Howard (former DHA Senior Development Program Manager), David Nisivoccia (DHA Chief Executive Officer), Craig Allen (DHA Board of Commissioner), Joseph Vigil (WORKSHOP8 Architect), Brandy LeMae (WORKSHOP8 Creative Director), Chris Spelke (Former DHA Development Program Manager), and Riley McLaughlin (I-KOTA CEO).

Submitting Gateway was one of my first tasks when I started at WORKSHOP8 last summer, so I had to learn a lot about the project and what made it remarkable. While busy trying to convince the award committee of its merit, I was also convinced in the value in joining W8 and getting to be a part of such a great team. It’s exciting to work in place committed to designing much-needed affordable housing and now I get to enjoy all the lessons-learned too without any of the actual work!
